Amigo’s story

Amigo was a brilliant little horse with a great big heart.  It was so sad to see him pass away at such an early stage of his life as he was only 8 years old.
Amigo was imported, by Mr Newman from Tyrol in Austria, as a foal with his nephew Adiose, who was out of his sister Vrony.  He was purchased by my family and in our hands proved himself an exceptional horse.
He competed in Pony club, in the Gosling Cup and Area 8 Show jumping, he was able to compete on a level playing field with all breeds and types of horses.  This is the stamp of a real Haflinger star.  He competed in cross country, show jumping dressage, showing, working hunter pony, gymkhana and inhand.  He also represented our club in team events.
When he competed at the Breed Show he was a judges favourite.  He competed succesfully in pairs with Oxnead Scharmaine my sister’s horse, both in cross country and show jumping.  Scharmaine and Amigo had been together all their lives and were good friends.  He first competed at the Breed Show in 2004 as a four year old.  He won an impressive total of rosettes winning the Junior Best Turned out and the Novice Ridden Stallion or Gelding for a rider under 21years.  He was first in Junior Handler, second in the in hand gelding. He came fourth in the Pairs Baton Relay with Scharmaine, fifth in Junior Working Hunter Pony and seventh in the RDA class, all this shows his amazing temperament for a young horse.   The following year he came second in Best Turned out, third in the Pairs Baton Relay with Scharmaine and Sara again, second in the Family Pony.  He was fourth in Open Ridden Gelding, fourth in Junior Working Hunter Pony.  He became The Junior Ridden Champion for which success we were so proud of him.
In 2006 he was first in the Open Jumping and second in the Intermediate Jumping.  He again did brilliantly in Best Turned Out winning the class again.  He won the Family Pony and was first in the Intermediate Working Hunter Pony which led to him being the Overall champion of the WHP classes.  He also took the third rosette in the RDA ridden, second in the Western Trail and fifth in the inhand gelding.    This was his best Breed Show and he showed such talent in the the variety of classes he won and was placed in.
He was always in the rosettes at the Breed Show and other competitions.  People might remember him best as part of the Canvey Island Haflingers who excelled at the show.  I feel this was just the start he had achieved so much as a young horse and had a golden future ahead of him.  His temperament was exceptional and he had been teaching my friend who is disabled to ride, as well as this we had just started driving with him and he was doing well.
Not only was he a good horse, but he was a best friend and will always be remembered in our hearts.
