LOLA

Lola gained her place in the Lifetime Ridden Performance Awards by gaining:-
Category 1 – a win in pairs ridden.
Category 2 –a win in show jumping.
Category 3 – a win in gymkhana.
Lola was imported from Holland in foal in the late sixties.  Her sire Walter was a well used Dutch stallion and is in the background of many Dutch animals.

Lola's Story

“You can’t sell Lola!  She’s part of the family!”
This was my family’s reaction whenever I threatened to sell my mischievous little mare!
So, despite my despair at the number of times she escaped through the fences, stole the visiting mares’ foals and stamped, snorted and chased the hounds, Lola remained with the Davenport family for most of her thirty three remarkable years.  At family reunions we still recall her “Chestnut Mare” antics!

Robin, the farrier managed to get a set of shoes on her after fourteen years, so for most of her life she was ridden unshod and in foal as she had thirteen foals in her younger years.

She did the things that most Haffies do: she was hacked out and hunted by most of the family and friends, as well as giving pony rides at school and teaching people to ride.

However, it was when she was in her twenties that she surprised us by winning the Open Jumping at Ascot in 1988, the Pairs with her son, Sandy Storm, the lovely wooden carved trophy for the winning Veteran and the winner of the most points for the gymkhana.

She certainly had attitude and knew how to cheer us up when we felt bad and how to bring us down to earth when she thought we were having it too good!  Many of us still bear the scars!  She is always remembered with affection a was truly a little Haflinger with a big heart!
