Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer
The Society is delighted to accept foals born through both Artificial Insemination and via Embryo Transfer. Please ensure you read the relevant section of the Stud Book rules to ensure you comply with current requirements.
Any stallions used must be proven to have no foreign blood in their pedigree if you wish to register the foal as pure bred.
Importation of semen
When you import semen that is usually arranged via a veterinary practice or through and Equine Breeding Service. Both will be able to advise of the regulation that must be adhered to. When importing semen from overseas they will also assist with the import licences and paperwork required by DEFRA
Please advise the Stud Book Manager when you import semen by completing and the returned the form that can be downloaded here:
If the stallion is unfamiliar to us we will require a copy of the stallions pedigree back to 6 generations and also details of the stud book with whom he is registered
This is the equivalent of the covering certificate provided by stallion owners when using live cover. The form required can be downloaded here:
The form must be filled in by the Veterinary Surgeon or Technician who has inseminated the mare and should be returned to the Stud Book Manager with the application for foal registration
Collection of Semen
If you wish to send semen from you stallion either within Great Britain or overseas then please advise the Society that this is being undertaken so we can keep the records of our registered stallions up to date. The form required can be downloaded here:
If you wish to use another mare as a surrogate, then please ensure all the relevant areas of the stud book have been understood. To enable the Society to process the registration of the foal, the form required can be downloaded here:
The form must be filled in by the Veterinary Surgeon or Technician who undertaken the procedure and should be returned to the Stud Book Manager with the application for foal registration.
